Sex and Chocolate at APU

Last night, our organization JustOne (www.just4one.org), in partnership with Stop the Traffik (www.stopthetraffik), facilitated a 2 hour learning forum on the issue of modern-day slavery at Azusa Pacific University (www.apu.edu), especially as it relates to the sex trade and slavery that exists on cocoa farms. We were a part of a week long emphasis on social justice at the school.

There were over 60 students and staff who participated in the evening; many of whom had some prior knowledge on the issue of slavery. The dialog portion of the evening was very encouraging as we heard about students on the campus who were already moving on some of the issues.

Several students noted that they will petition to make sure their school moves towards all fair trade products in their coffee outlets. A similar move has already been made in the coffee lounge area (The Loop) at Life Pacific College, the college I teach at.
