This past Sunday at New Hope, I had the opportunity to share about what I call “Compassionate Justice.” We are currently in a series focusing on the issues of poverty and faith (especially as it relates to God’s kingdom).
As many of you already know, people are talking and writing more about justice (aka social justice) of late. From my experience, there have been two major responses to the talk…either excitement or deep concern for the watering down or denial of the “Gospel”. In light of this, I thought it would be good to provide a theological and historical position on the matter.
Please keep in mind that this was a 40 minute talk and there was not enough time to unpack all of my thoughts on the matter. Nevertheless, I think there is sufficient information on this recording to create meaningful conversation about justice and the God’s kingdom.
(Side Note: I also used a portion of this message for a talk I did today during chapel at Life Pacific College. It was an amazing time with the students, faculty, and administration. Thanks to those who were there!)

Charles – THANKYOU for teaching on this! This very subject – complete with the historical context – is a passion of mine and important for all of us at IJM as we continually seek to bring a shift in the way the global Church understands and responds to God’s call to do justice. I’d love to be a conversation partner with you on this if you’re interested.
Love to chat sometime in the near future Bethany. Ben Arment of Catalyst mentioned that we should connect sometime. Also, Larry Martin from IJM has been a great support to our efforts at JustOne.
